Remembrance

We have had a busy two weeks since returning after the half-term break.

In English we have continued our study of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. We are working with Flegg High Ormiston Academy to explore the language of Shakespeare. Last week we started our drama work, creating freeze frames for the first part of the play. Some Year 8s will be visiting us soon so we can take part in a workshop that they are preparing for us.

This half-term we are looking at persuasive writing. We are starting with holiday brochures so we turned our classroom into an aeroplane and jetted off to Sicily to explore the picturesque beaches, the mountainous landscape and historic sites.

Our afternoon work has a geography focus. We started by identifying and locating countries on the continent of Europe, then finding out the names of their capital cities before using the Internet to research two. This week we have focused on Italy, we have researched the physical geography, and then we created presentations about major cities and the landmarks that can be found there.

Today saw us attend the Remembrance Service at the War Memorial in Ormesby. We took along the piece of flint and the pebbles that we had painted. We enjoyed joining the Infant School and other people from the village to mark this important event.

We are looking forward to next week as we will be visiting Colchester Castle to get us started on our history work - How did the arrival of the Romans change Britain? - keep an eye out for some photographs!
