History Quality Mark Award
The Historical Association Quality Mark is an award that recognises the excellence of history provision in a school. The Quality Mark assesses and values the history provision of the curriculum, how it is taught by the teachers and how the school enriches the historical experiences being offered to young people. The Quality Mark provides a framework for success in which to develop an outstanding provision of history. There is a regulated programme for a school to follow, who are working to achieve the Quality Mark with a clear assessment procedure delivered by independent Historical Association appointed assessors.
Our experience of the History Quality Mark process was a very positive one. It enabled us to think analytically about our practice and our ideas benefitted from the conversations we have had about history education between ourselves and the assessor. We really appreciated the rigour of the Quality Mark assessment and it gave our pupils and staff a fantastic opportunity to express how much our school has a passion for the subject of History and enabled us to demonstrate the breadth of History our ambitious curriculum possesses enriched by impactful trips, immersive technology and stimulating original sources. We achieved Silver overall, but were so close to Gold that following some minor improvements we will hopefully be upgraded to Gold within twelve months. A worthwhile and rewarding experience for all.
